It's been a while since I've had to do this, but.... I'm a disabled trans woman. Last week, I was sick and had to miss some work. I had budgeted so very carefully, but missing the time at work means I may not be able to afford my medication at the end of the month, without which I am unable to function (making it near impossible to work enough to get my medication). My insurance does not cover medication, so I have to pay out of pocket with discount cards.
This is compounded by the fact that I had already scheduled time off, and wasn't able to cancel that time off.
The short of it is that I am currently set to choose between food and medicine around that time (I will choose medicine).
If I can get a total of $200 USD, I can afford both.
If I can get another $150, (this one is a 6 month supply) I'll be able to afford my estrogen *before* I run out instead of a month or so after.
Below is a picture of my last receipt from getting my monthly meds. Even with the discount cards, it's pretty expensive.
